Gala is a series of five black-and-white photographs of people playing basketball, publicly available for download as PDFs. They come with an invitation to become a co-author. The files are meant to be printed on regular bleached A4 office paper and partially coloured with coloured pencils. They can be exhibited anywhere, either privately or as part of an exhibition, either as a complete series or as a selection.
The photographs were taken during the VIP dinner of Munich’s annual art event Various Others in 2024. The dinner was held at BMW Park — the venue of the basketball department of FC Bayern München — and ended with the festival’s art elite playing basketball. With a single hoop, countless balls, and varying degrees of talent, this finale felt like a weird yet entertaining take on the social dynamics governing the art world. I did not dare to participate at the time. Maybe this is a retroactive attempt to do so.
