Bureau for the Construction of Listening Spaces
Posters, headphones, MP3 player
2018
The BCLS is a temporary institution, developed for Das Richtfest, a festival on a construction site of a residential building in Radolfzell, Germany.
Its first part consists of a series of participatory scores as posters. Comprising different listening tasks, these are are meant to allow the recipients to take on different perspectives on the sounds of the exhibition and the acoustics of the space and furthermore enter into a process of reflection around questions of future housing and cohabitation. The second part consists of an MP3 player and a pair of headphones, playing back audio-files from science fiction movie scenes that were set in housing spaces. Thereby, the discursive space of the installation is extended, also including futures from the past.
